I think baseball has been around in some form since the 1700s. Cricket has
been around in some form for about 700 years and was formalised into pretty
much the same game we play today in the 1700s.

That's pretty much it! Personally I find baseball boring as bat shit. I
think the main difference between them is that in cricket a batsman gets to
build an innings over hours (sometimes days) but if they get out, the next
batsmen comes in. In baseball, if the batter hits it, they run, and they
don't get to face another pitch for ages. Also, cricket is about building
partnerships, as two batsmen bat together and two bowlers bowl together (one
from each end). Watch a game or two of the World Cup next month (preferably
one with two good teams) and see how you go!
