I've always been baffled, actually, as to why they call fries chips. I
usually like Britishisms, and even adopt them, but this one just makes
no sense to me.
Crisps makes sense. They're crisp. But what are chips a chip of? An
American chip looks like a chip, a British chip looks like a french fry.
Why would anyone apply the word 'chip' to a french fry? I just don't get it.
