Cancellation of October 4, 1979 Washington, DC Concert
How many people remember the following exchange on this group between
Sue Kline and me from Feb 1996? Me: I had tickets to the ABBA concert at Washington DC's DAR Constitution Hall . . . Sue: . . . Agnetha contracted food poisoning after the Boston show which preceded the scheduled DC concert. It was bad fish, I think . . .. __________________________________________________ _____________________________ Update, 10.5 years later: According to the Abba Wikipedia article -- <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABBA:>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ABBA: "The last scheduled ABBA concert on the US soil, in Washington, DC, was cancelled due to Agnetha's breakdown after the plane incident." Further, according to -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:AB...s_Breakdown.3F -- "Agnetha suffered extreme emotional distress during the flight from NY to Boston when the private plane she was on couldn't land because of the extremely bad weather (Windsor Locks, Connecticut Tornado) and was subjected to violent turbulence and lack of fuel. Eventually, it did land and Agnetha went through the concert in Boston that was delayed for almost two hours. Next day she was forced to travel to Washington, DC, but having arrived there she locked herself in the hotel room and refused to talk to anyone, except the physician who issued the band a waiver allowing them to cancel the show in Washington, DC, without legal repercussions from the promoters." So, while evidently there was a cover story that Agnetha contracted food poisoning and that is what caused the Washington, DC concert to be cancelled, the real reason was the emotional distress caused to Agnetha by a terrifying flight the night before (October 3, 1979). |
