Adventures of a Covers Band
People, I'm knocking on 40s door and not along ago resurrected my music
career (cough) - a career that spanned an originals band playing to 6-10 people mid-week - paid nothing - recorded a few demos - yes - played live on radio once - but then realised we weren't going anywhere and packed it in. Anyway...I live in a part of England..which to our American cousins is probably similar to Alabama - you know..people with 6 toes and alot of inter-breeding. Playing now with a covers doing the circuit - which BTW is v.popular here where people do not have much else to do but go to the local and get pissed - covers bands big business. Played a biker pub last night - our set currently ranges from Van Morrison to Cult to Jeff Beck to Quo to ..I describe it as old pop, classic rock, pissed up rock. We currently play no AC/DC..(other members in the band vary between being 10-16 years younger than me!) BUT last night biker chick kept screaming for AC/DC..I teased with Highway/Thunderstruck and on playing the opening riff to The Jack..man she got out front doing the full 'i'm a stripper' dancing loving it. We are booked to go back to this venue - WHAT AC/DC WOULD YOU PLAY..NEAR END OF EVENING TO A DRUNK AUDIENCE..CONSIDERING YOU'RE PROBABLY DRUNK YOURSELF??????????????? |

It's probably not a song you should attempt with people who aren't used to playing AC/DC. If you're looking for a play-it-in-your-sleep number that nobody can fuck up, I'd say TNT or Dirty Deeds, or maybe H2H. |

If the lead guitarist can't pick the main riff properly and finger taps it instead (as almost everyone does), it sounds fucking ridiculous. |

I have to agree, Thunderstruck would royally suck unless you really can nail the opening riff using a pick. I still have my reservations about Rosie - such a great song - and there is the challenge when you are a fan of the music you are trying to cover it is hard not to be an ass when it does not sound like the record.. I reckon The Jack and Highway. I'll keep you posted. |

I'm rather impressed. I gotta ask you, why can't you do that more often instead of coming in here & insulting people you don't even know? -- Doofieİ Rock on with your bad self! It's the classic DC cover song. However, if you'd like something that that crowd doesn't know is DC but would completely blow them away...I'd go with Bad Boy Boogie and insert the striptease for good measure. They won't soon forget that. Dave - Toronto |

> YSMANL every time. Even people who don't think they know it, know it. At the same time, though, many people who think they know it, don't. If I had a nickel for every time I heard some dork play the second part of that riff G-G-C-G-D-G instead of G-G-D-G-D-G, I'd be fucking rich. |
