What is AC/DC's current contract status?? - 02-08-2007, 11:21 PM

I've always had the belief that they'd put out another album but lately I'm
not so sure. Reports out before Christmas stated that any previous
announcements of them working on an album were not true and that there are
not plans for anything in the near future.

Are they still under contract to Sony?? And if so...for how many albums??
Also, don't they owe their previous label something as well (or are they
squared away with them)?? If they do owe another album (or two or
three)....could they simply release Brianfire (including, of course, another
copy of BIB) and have it cancel out any remaining obligations due to the
record company??

Takes balls to sign a new deal and then not release any new material going
on 7 years.

Dave - Toronto

That's the most (and the worst) important, 7 looong years without
anything new. And I put my hand on the fire that there are loads of
unreleased things on the vaults, not only to do a Brianfire but an AC/
DCfire.

I don't what is happening, but there's something wrong I think....I
mean, this situation is anything but normal.

I find it interesting that many people can't or won't accept the simple fact
that the band may have called it a day. I'm sure there will be a festival
show or two, or benefit gigs, maybe even cameo stuff with the Stones, but my
gut tells me the fat woman has sung.

As far as albums, or potential contract obligations with Sony or whoever,
(and not one person here knows the real details of the Sony contract) I'm
certain they have all ready been fulfilled with projects such as Family
Jewels, DVD's, remasters or what have you, or will be fulfilled with
projects like BrianFire or something, but I seriously doubt there will ever
be another full studio production again, especially something that requires
a tour to support it.

Prove me wrong, that's cool, I'd like to have a follow up to SUL, but I
don't think they have any material left, or the desire, or the need, and
quite frankly that's okay. Better start mulling that one over guys, I think
it's a wrap.

What the heck was that whole Mackie article about then? They just buying
these recording rigs so they can make music for the grandkids?

If they are in retriement, fine. But wouldn't they have told someone,
anyone, that they had hung it up?

My bet is another album will come eventually.

The album will be released and when it does it will be RARE!
Big rare, super rare, rare like a stake, rare like my ass when I get a
spanking, the rarest in all of the land.

Brianfire? I'll seriously laugh my ass off if they put something out
with that name. I think they called it a day but maybe something might
come out eventually. Their hey day is long over anyway- too busy living
in mansions and getting Asian prostitutes it seems.

I believe that I mentioned in an earlier post that perhaps the guys
(AC/DC) may have finally gotten computer-saavy and perhaps are using
high-speed secured Internet access to record the new AC/DC album...
though of course timing will/may be a bit awful though should be good
for preparing demo's of songs... and the Young brothers pick the best
of what they hear. Thus, the entire band until they are somewhat
ready to record the album don't actually have to be physically
anywhere near other band members.
I do readily admit this could be wishful thinking esp. with another
post of mine where I also mentioned that they're probably finished
with the album but for some reason don't want to release it yet.
There's Gonna Be Some Rockin'...

Me too. Honestly, what could they put on Brianfire and have it sell? Let
me guess, all 10 songs from BIB. If you take BIB out of the equation, most
of AC/DC's post 1981 career has been lackluster.

Seriously. The fact of the matter is, there's only been one great album in
the Brian Johnson era, and it was the first one. So it's not like there's
some treasure trove of awesome studio outtakes laying around, and whatever
exists is most likely of negligible quality (i.e. Down on the Borderline,
Snake Eye, etc.).

If they wanted to do something like release the original masters from the
FTATR sessions, that would at least be interesting, but it wouldn't sell for
shit.

You read it, so it must be true.

Well, if I was Mal, or Ang, or Brian, and some fan/music insider approached
me and asked "When is the next album blah blah blah.....?" Would I save
more face by saying "We're working on it lad," or "We've hung it up. We're
done man." Which is going to be the lesser of two evils? To me, giving
people hope will keep you in the fan's favor. Flat out telling them "we're
done" is going to piss some people off, fans and industry people alike. I
think they're trying to take the easy way out. Just my opinion.

Maybe. But I'm not holding my breath.

I think you are so off base it's not even funny. If these guys did have
another album in them, they would be *the last* band in the world to do
digi. How many times has Mal said "We're going to go for the Powarage sound
on the next one." Powarage was one step short of having blood ooze down the
front of a Marshall cabinet and you think they're going to go digi? Dude,
next time we party I'm going to conk you over the head.

Why? Ever heard of the Angus Army? I mean come on, I even saw the damn
bus. By the way, we highly discourage the use of webtv here. Just so you
know.

They should call it Brian Shake. Like a few in here agree, Brian's best
was his 1st. Then its moments of good tunes......like Honey Roll!!
