What makes the country music industry and the South look -

worse? The Dixie Chick’s negative statement about President Bush and the Iraq war or the country music listeners angry hateful destructive actions toward one of their own? I am not a country fan but this whole situation was a big eye opener for me. I was sickened by the systematic destruction of this group’s image. I realize how intolerant the southern perspective. More importantly I did not realize how unsafe it was for an individual to express an opposing opinion within the southern community. The biggest reaction was from Texas were Bush and the Dixie Chicks are from. Their reason given: The Dixie Chicks comments were unpatriotic and made country music look bad.It was all country music stations that stopped playing the Dixie Chicks music because of high volumes of callers flat out saying they just don’t want to hear their music. I was just saddened from the whole situation that country music fans are so hateful towards people with differing opinion with very supportable facts at that. Most of all they destroyed one of their own for speaking her mind. Obviously country music fans have a very narrow definition of patriotism and what makes a group look bad. As an outside objective perspective I now associate county music fans with intolerant hateful sheep that can’t entertain differing point or views within their own community.
