off-topic, but i'm excited... - 02-15-2007, 04:24 PM

.... so sue me.

i got tickets yesterday to see the police at MSG on august 3rd...
serious nosebleed seats... it could be alvin and the chipmunks on
stage for all i'll be able to see without binoculars... i've been
spoiled by rocket tickets... but, OMG, i'm going to see the police
again!

this is going to be a great year... first elton's birthday party in
march, then reliving college with the police in august.

damn.

Thank God I don't have to relive college with the police. That night in the
drunk tank was murder.

Was that shot by the police or just shot at in a random act of violence?
It's starting to sound like you might have some good stories to tell us
Denice ;-) Maybe that can tide us over until the next bit of big/interesting
EJ news.

Corndogger
Never shot at and never spent a night in the drunk tank.

I missed a drive-by shooting by 1 hour once. The shooter was a cop
pursuing a robbery suspect. He was trying to shoot out the guy's tires
and the bullets ricocheted and hit 2 people unlucky enough to be in
the area. One died. Dumbass cop. Totally reckless and the robbery
suspect didn't shoot anyone. I didn't stay in town long enough to
learn the final outcome.

Re; the "other" Police. One of the best concerts I ever went to was
The Police in Comisky Park in 1983. It was a daylong event also
featuring Joan Jett, Flock Of Seagulls and The Fixx. It was GA so I
got close enough to see just how blue Sting's eyes are.

hey brian,
yeah, i've got a few stories... i did a lot of stupid things in
college.

i grew up in western NY, and came down to NYC for college...there
were several other girls from my hometown attending my school, and
we had a great time as newbies in the big city... but because we went
to a college with very few straight men (mostly women and gay guys),
we used to hang out at columbia university uptown on the weekends.

one night, we went up to columbia to a frat party... one of our
friends
from upstate just had her boyfriend break up with her, so she got
upset
and very drunk... as we were walking down broadway, some local guy
said something to her that i didn't hear... but i did hear her snarl
at him
about "staying in the gutter where he belonged."

needless to say, he didn't appreciate that... he started to follow us
with
his friends, threatening all of us... we ran into a diner and sat at a
booth,
but we saw him looking at us through the door... a couple minutes
later,
he stormed into the diner and pointed out this girl to one of his
friends,
saying "she's the one"... the other guy nodded and said, "yeah, i'll
take
care of it"... he had his hand inside his jacket like he was holding a
gun.
(now we didn't actually SEE a gun, but it looked like it... and we
were
appropriately freaked.)

we went to the owner of the diner and asked him to get the police...
the
police came in and escorted us out of the dinner, then put us in a cab
back downtown.

of course, we all screamed at this girl when we got back to the dorm,
and
she wasn't allowed to join us for a couple weeks as we went back to
columbia... she ended up quitting college shortly after that and
moving
back to western NY, where she went into rehab for a bit... then got
married
and had a baby... that's the last i heard of her.

so that's how we maybe almost got shot... happy to say, that's as
close as
i've come (that i know of).

now, brian... it's YOUR turn.
