It might well seem like that...to dickheads.

Climate change 2007: Climate sceptics switch focus to economics

It remains to be seen whether these (global warming skeptics') arguments will gain much
traction. Alan Thorpe of Britain's Natural Environment Research Council, which hosted an
online debate to canvass climate sceptics on their views, says that such views range from lazy
to devious.
"I think there is a degree to which there is mischievous use of scepticism," he says.
"Sceptics want to accuse scientific society of wanting a particular policy outcome, but actual
policy is up to governments."

It depends how 'close' you are to the shore.
A ways off from the ocean today - - & you can look forward to beach
front property...
Yes, if your yard includes a beach now, you should get taller stilts.
The most dire predictions won't provide me a tide out my window.
I'm in Indiana and we'll see the Flintstones again before I walk down to
the surf.
Since we're at 27 consecutive days below freezing (Six in a row -0F) a
bit of warmth would be OK.

That's it?
Did you delete the dates so we wouldn't panic?
Should I check to see it doesn't say:
"Heaven and earth will pass away on February 19th, 2007."
(I'll hop a flight to Paris)
Or
"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth when the Police reunite."
(They waited 22 years...it's no big deal to drag it out longer)
I'm the last person to call anyone a procrastinator.
But you wrote "this earth will soon pass away" & I think the most recent
entries you cited are thousands of year old.
Consider:

Well, he obviously saw foreclosure before the rapture.

I'm not a Yankee or Cub fan, but this is powerful shit.
You do know of this prediction?
The Yankees faced the Cubs in the '32 World Series.
They swept in four games.
No the 'big deal'...
During game 3, Babe hit what is known as "Babe Ruth's Called Shot".
Yep, during the at-bat, Ruth gestured to the deepest part of the park in
the center-field bleachers.
The Bambino said he was gonna smack it out.
I don't need to tell you what happened...

Both of those are really just hyperbolic metaphors to emphasize the
fidelity of the statements, not actual prophecy. It's as much as to say
"heaven and earth shall disappear before my word shall be broken".
>

Only Baal knows what that means. It certainly doesn't mean that "old
earth" should necessarily be destroyed, only forgotten.
In truth the Bible has little to say about the planet as an entity
(rather than as a spiritual idea) because it was mostly written by
desert-dwelling hop heads with very little scientific understanding.
My Bible is quite intact. It says nothing about the actual destruction
of the planet.
And - anyway - is that your full reasoning behind the assumption that
earth will "soon" pass away? Even given that the quoted passages were
relevant, where's the "soon"?

And repeatedly. If it weren't for the fact that these "prophecies" were
under the aegis of religious "thought," we would classify these
soothsayers as mad, because they keep repeating the same things over and
over (for millenia!) despite the fact that none of them actually ever
come to pass.

Why? It's simply a fact: there have been countless prophecies of a
coming apocalypse over the millenai, and they have - indeed - always
been proven wrong. There's nothing uncalled for about his statement in
the least. What might be considered as uncalled for is the injection
into a conversation about science of an insipid religiosity.
