What instrument should I learn to play, and how - 03-04-2007, 01:45 PM

should I learn it? I recently moved from a small city of 75K to a small town of 8K. I have about six months until I leave for college, and want to achieve a few things before then. I have checked, and there are no professional teachers in my town. Which instrument would be easiest to learn independently?A few factors: I have tried to learn the guitar in the past, and discovered after six months with a professional that I lack a certain dexterity and precision of hand movement that it requires. I've been told that the piano requires the same set of skills as the guitar, but haven’t verified this with anyone who actually plays the piano. I've looked into the sax and a few other brass instruments. They are somewhat appealing, but I don’t want to buy one only to learn that I am incapable of playing it. Any suggestions?

Saxophone is a pretty easy instrument to learn. The only real thing you need to learn (other than the fingerings) is the way your lips are on the reed (this doesn't take that much time to master). Unlike clarinet, your fingers can be of any size (clarinet can't be played as easily with small fingers because of the holes for the keys).

Percussion is the BEST!!! its not that hard to learn i started out playin the trumpet and it sucked! so i told my old band teacher that i wanted to play drums and she told me to go for it..so i taught myself..I LOVE IT!!! u can order the music books from www.donwilsonmusic.com and they will teach you everything you need to know they are like $15 because the book teaches u half bells and xylophone and half snare drum and bass drum!! HOPE THIS HELPED!!
